If this book was designed to be read by students of economics, I'd say it's a great nontechnical explanation of Game Theory. Fortunately for me, I am a grad student in economics and have studied economic theory pretty intensely for the past few years. I think the author does a good job of explaining the ideas covered in normal game theory courses and explaining the ideas in nontechnical language. I would recommend this to anybody studying economics/game theory (undergrads, grad students, profs, researchers). Sometimes we get lost in all of the mathematics of game theory and I think it's a good explanation of what we study in everyday language.However, I would probably not recommend this to people who do not formally study game theory. Some of the author's explanations are terse or convoluted. Since I formally study this stuff, I typically understand what he's trying to say, even if is explanation is not great. I can't imagine his explanations being sufficient for the everyday reader.

This book deserves a much higher score than it's recieved. The reason why it has such an even distribution between 1-5 stars is that Binmore's book is written for a person who doesn't necessarily know much about game theory but is reasonably well read in other fields related to game theory. This is what allows Binmore to write such a short book on this complex field. A good way to mitigate this problem in reading the book is to also read the VSIs on Causation, Social Psychology, Risk, Networks, Statistics, Information and Probability.

This book is needlessly abstruse, and difficult to follow. It's this kind of 'catch me if you can' authorship that leaves people in the dark on what could otherwise be an interesting and challenging read. Instead of explaining concepts and terminology, and integrating them with examples, the author seems to be simply writing down his own thoughts on the subject with no intended reader in mind.Will readers learn anything from this book? It's hard to say. If you are willing to spend 15-20 minutes on a paragraph of text to reverse engineer what the author was trying to explain, then you may be able to get something out of this book. But if you are looking for a work that will teach you even the basics of game theory, this is not it worthwhile in my opinion.Add to that the random and disorienting political and human interest asides scattered throughout and this ends up being far more confusing read than it should be.

This is not a replacement for an academic level textbook, nor is it recommended for readers looking for some fluffy hand wavy book of charming non-mathematical anecdotes.If you are a math/cs/statistics/engineering graduate looking for some lightweight technical reading to expand your understanding, this is a very good book.

This book opened my eyes to the great differences between finite and infinite problems. Worth reading to gain an understanding that all problems are not the same and h nice the approaches to solving them.

I avoid writing negative reviews, but am willing to do so when there is a need to warn other readers about wasting time and money on a book. This book presents one such occassion.The problem is simply that this book works very poorly as an introduction. The early parts of the book fail to provide the lay of the land, definitions of terms are unclear, many topics are poorly explained, and all sorts of necessary details are missing.I see that another reviewer loved the book, but I also get the impression that this reviewer already has some background in game theory (which I don't). Readers with that background might find this book to be a fun and breezy review since they can fill in the missing content but, again, the problem is that this book purports to be an introduction.Lest anyone think that the real problem was that this book was over my head, I'll just note that I'm an engineer, and I've done fine with plenty of books dealing with math, science, and other analytic subjects, many of which are a good bit more advanced than Binmore's.I had to cut my losses and abandon this book about a third of the way through, and I'll now be looking again for a game theory book which is genuinely a proper introduction. After reading such a book, perhaps I'll come back to Binmore's book and see if I can get more out of it.

This is our second Julia Donaldson book, we also have Room on the Broom, and the rhymes are great, illustrations are beautiful and the story has a good message. My 3 year old loves it and I don't mind reading it over and over.

I agree 100% with a previous user comment... Changing the text to Americanize phrases has completely altered the rhyme and flow of the book and makes it lose it's charm... Disappointed that Amazon didn't say where the book was edited, or offer another version. Would have never ordered if I knew that it was changed from the original that my kids love.

Our 3 year old really enjoys to have stories and books read to him and leading up to Halloween he was asking for a book with monsters. So we decided to look on Amazon and found both The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child for him.Both of the Gruffalo books are nicely illustrated with fun and engaging stories for him. Each page has a drawing that helps to paint the picture of what is being read. We LOVE this book! I don’t know how I missed it until recently, but my 3-yr-old LOVES it, and my 12-month old is starting to love it, too! He has memorized most of the good parts about the gruffalo, and the rhymes and cadence are so lovely. We like to read the book, then watch “The Gruffalo” on Netflix (also SO cute). Then we read “The Gruffalo’s Child,” and watch that! Such a fun, clever book! I find myself thinking of the lines at work!

We are big fans of this short movie so when I saw the book, it was a must have for my kids. Before receiving, I had concerns about the length keeping the attention of my 2.5 year old but it is perfect; not too long while still including important details. We have fun reading it using a variety of voices to distinguish all of the characters. This will be read many times for years to come!

I had already known I would love the story because we watched it on YouTube b4. However what made me love the book even more is that my daughter didn't like the scary looking graffalo on the TV screen. However she gets to touch it on the the book and see that its harmless. Its just another ugly picture lo in a wonderful story. Everything about this book is good except that the cover came with some dents and white spots where the red had been peeled or rubbed off. But not even that could take a star out because the story beats it all. After all my toddler will eventually dent and peel it haha.

I first saw the book, The Gruffalo, in Europe when I was on a trip, and bought it for my grands. When I was looking for another copy to give as a gift, I saw this sequel, The Gruffalo's Child. It is as charming as the first! Slightly scary - just enough to keep young kids engrossed, but with a sweet end and story. I strongly recommend both!

Review for Arabic version. I am not a native Arabic speaker, I am just reading for learning purposes. I can't comment on the exact quality of translation, but it appears to be good. Most of my review is from the perspective of a person who is learning Arabic as a second language.The localization is pretty good, too. It's not a straight word-for-word translation -- it's more like the whole story was rewritten: it's all rhyming poetry, and uses different (more eastern) words for foods, e.g. kabab. The pages read right-to-left like they should and the images have been flipped to make it appear correct. Great quality job over all. It sounds pretty cute when read aloud. From a reading level perspective, it is a bit harder than some children's books, but not overly difficult (6-10 lines of poetry per page). Some some vowel markings are present on harder words.I found the story to be very cute and would definitely read to kids. It shows that being clever can get you quite far. Just watch out for that غرفول in the forest!

Though our little boy is too young to understand the book yet, both Julia Donaldson books we own are all wonderful. The books read like a haiku poem. They are fun and inspiring and teach a little lesson. In the case of The Gruffalo, it teaches the importance of staying calm under pressure and thinking creatively. The other book we own from Julia, Room on the Broom, teaches the importance of strong relationship. In my opinion, these books are "Must Have's" for any child literary collection. Another book of hers is on its way, The Snail and the Whale, and we will continue to expand our collection of her books in the future.

In my nearly 65 years of life I have had a number of experiences which I could identify with various experiences of several of the characters;5. ... I was impressed with the manner in which the characters, some more than others, interpreted their interaction with our Creator - it help me see new ways to understand old truths;6. ... I felt as though I had worshipped as I read "Heart of a Lion;"7. ... Also, as an aside, the grammar and story continuity were superb, causing no challenge to my being able to focus on what was happening in the story;I would recommend this book to anyone who might have ever wondered what it might have been like to live in the days before and just after the Flood. This novel is appropriate for teens through senior adults.Be prepared to laugh, cry, hold your breath and be amazed as you discover the "Heart of the Lion."

I generally enjoy historical fiction, but this book seemed to deviate too far from scripture. Often I found myself simply skimming pages just to finish the story. The author captures well the highs and lows of faith and lack thereof. I could feel the worry that Noah and his family felt, wondering, "are we crazy, have we heard God correctly?"But the inaccuracies were rampant:Scripture says that man was vegetarian before the flood, but the author has them eating meat.Genesis 6:9 says "Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God." But the author presents him as overcome by sexual temptation and unable to separate himself from lust. Can he support this idea? If not, don't mess with God's appraisal of the man. And certainly DO NOT imply that sexual immorality is the norm.I got tired of the author implying that sin came to "helpless men" besieged by immoral women. Sure there are immoral women, but God tells us that sin entered the world through one man - Romans 5:12. There is a dangerous tendency in men in some "Christian" circles to blame women for the sin of man, but God never says this nor treats women thusly.Galatians 3:28 English Standard Version (ESV)There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.I doubt I will read another book by the author.

I have always loved Gilbert Morris' novels which is why I bought this one. However, he did not hold up to his usual standard of excellence. When anyone attempts to write fiction based on a Biblical character, they need to be very careful to stick to what is Biblically accurate. As has been pointed out in other reviews, he had them eating meat before the flood. He also mentioned seeing lights that shone like the rainbow. How did they know what a rainbow looked like before the first rainbow occurred AFTER the flood. I also don't believe that there was rain and thunder storms before the flood. He told a good story which held my interest but after reading some of these inaccuracies I was disappointed. I will stick to reading his books that are historical fiction, but not based on Bible characters.

The author had a good plot, but seemed to be honing his writing skills as he wrote. The first part of the book contained strange similies such as a man belching like a frog that boomed. Also, the author had Noah eating meat, even though Genesis says only after the flood that animals would be good for eating. Also, he had Noah's son being born before he began the ark and one of them even in charge of engineering it. But the Bible says that Shem, the oldest, was 100 years old two years after the flood. Since Noah took 100 years to build the ark, Shem wasn't even born until two years after Noah began building it. Also, he talked about flat land at the bottom of the mountain with emerald grass, then said the land was rocky and mountainous.I did appreciate that he went into Noah preaching before the flood and life aboard the ark. I have read two other books about Noah and, though one was superbly written, neiter covered these two things.

As someone who has only recently begun working with clay, I've looked over and purchased any number of popular books to help me with techniques and inspiration. This book is my favorite of the 500 books from Lark. There's no explanation of techniques, as with the other 500 books, but the pieces that Julia Galloway (and Ray Hemachandra from Lark) has chosen are truly inspiring. I read a bit about Galloway, and found that she is both a very popular and accomplished artist, as well as a professor of art. With that in mind, the pieces she shares with the reader are meant for us, to enjoy, and to trigger our hearts, minds, and hands to create. Great photography, too, the pieces come off the pages well.

This is a book of photos of contemporary ceramics, chosen from the best artists working in the US. Marvelous pieces with wonderfully creative designs and endlessly varied surface effects. The artists are identified in an Appendix. The editor, who is a professor of ceramics and an artist herself, clearly worked hard to select these pieces, and the photos are also of high quality. If you love ceramics but can't afford to collect 500 top quality pieces, this is a must-have. Also highly recommended is another book in the series, "500 Cups."

I bought this book as inspiration for a friend who is a sculptor (she works in the clay medium). The book is a beautiful book, so makes a lovely gift, and the vases in it are so diverse and amazing that it is also a wonderful inspiration for all artists. I love this series of books!!

As a potter, I love this series of books and this one is no exception! Beautiful pictures by very talented artist. I received this book in just a couple of days thanks to Amazon Prime. It was packaged well and in perfect condition.

All the 500 series books are excellent not only for theclay artist but even as just a coffee table book. Thepictures are so beautiful and my clay artist friends alllove these books as references, inspiration and just plaingorgeous eye candy. Well done on ALL the 500 sculpture books.

I bought this for my wife and she really really likes it. It will however soon find its way to the book shelf and begin to collect dust as we bought several of this kind.

My go-to recipe book. Pretty much everything I've tried has worked out and been absolutely delicious! Most of the ingredients are cheap and easy to acquire, too, and the dishes are easy to make. At least 50% of my dinners now come from this cookbook. Strongly recommended for all vegetarians and vegans (many of the vegetarian recipes can be easily converted to vegan), or anyone looking for some delicious, easy-to-make Middle Eastern and North African recipes. I particularly recommend the Chickpea and Macaroni casserole and the Lentil Soup with Spinach, but pretty much anything you pick will be a winner.

I bought this book based on all the reviews - but in reading the recipes over, I am a little disappointed. I was hoping to have a book with more (to me) new combinations of spices and ingredients. A lot of what I see in here are salt, pepper, and standard ingredients (peppers, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, canned beans). Which, I suppose, would be very helpful for people who are in a part of the country where you can't find things like rosewater or harissa easily.

Finally a vegetarian book of gold! I went to the Middle-East a couple years ago and the food was absolutely delicious, fresh and mostly vegetarian. This book is spot on with the recipes! I have tried a lot of them and all with success. I have so many bookmarks that it will take me a long time to get through all of them, which I plan to. My family and guests love what I am making.

Wonderful cookbook. The author is an ambassador of good food and good will from Canadian and Middle Eastern traditions, not only of great food but the joys and lives of the people in a part of the world that gets a lots of bad press. It is a shining light. And the really terrific dishes are nutritious, affordable, and absolutely delicious.

I'm sure most people reading about "vegetarian middle-eastern" cookbooks are good cooks when they have the time and inclination. But I, for one, have grown bored with my own repertoire. Most cookbooks are more fun to read than to actually cook from. Or they have ingredients that, even living in New York City, seem annoyingly inaccessible.This book has lots of very easy recipes that are healthy vegetarian (hardly any animal fat with the exception of yoghurt in cold dishes). I can imagine actually(!) making just about everything, there's even a section on arab desserts -- the easy kind made of farina. This is probably the best cookbook I've ever bought. I think it's useful whatever your level of cooking expertise, but you need to be a fan of the meditterranean diet. We're talking beans, legumes, olive oil, yoghurt, eggplant, a few other vegetables. Recipe details:-- it's true most are simple, but unless you were raised in a middle-eastern family I don't know how you would've thought of these combinations -- even if you're say very familiar with Greek or Italian food, I think this is pretty new stuff.Some "recipes" include: yoghurt ginger appetizer (includes almonds, onions, ginger, tomato);many types of lentil soups from various middle eastern countries (the egyptian one includes butter and cumin, the one from bahrain adds tomato, vermicelli, and ground coriander);fried pepper salad; orange and olive salad; beet salad; stuffed eggplant; and vegetable casserole.Nothing sounds 'exciting' but it is all very accessible and well seasoned. It's like you could turn to this book and make every meal from it -- that is if you like meditterranean food.

This book includes many recipes for classic Middle Eastern vegetarian dishes, mainly from the Arab world. Everything looks and sounds delicious and authentic. The recipes are clearly written and don't require many exotic ingredients. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm always interested in finding tasty non-meat dishes to vary the daily menu and this cookbook delivers on that! The recipes in this book are ovo-lacto, but many of them can easily be adapted to vegan cooking. I definitely recommend this book! With recipes like these, meat really becomes irrelevant -- these dishes are all intrinsically good themselves!

I bought this book after a trip to Israel and Palestine. The food there was SO GOOD and this book helped me recreate it. Their use of herbs and spices is inspiring. This book will help you make simple,delicious,inexpensive vegetarian food to be enjoyed whether or not you are vegetarian. I liked it so much I have bought at least 6 copies as gifts. The recipe for Red Lentil Soup is fantastic. Everyone loves it and it's so easy to make. It's good with regular lentils too.

This cookbook is well designed and cogently written. The variety of recipes is impressive; many of which you will not see in restaurants in the United States. A couple reviews lamented about the lack of photos, but the instructions are very clear for the recipes I've tried and/or read so photos would do little other than increase the cost of the book. I am especially looking forward to trying a lot of the soups. There are some recipes with egg and dairy so hard-core vegans: caveat emptor.
